About StEpS
Where do I begin to tell the story of StEpS?
There are many paths that lead to this journey. And my first step was to find ways to empower myself through expressing what moved me, what saddened me and what stirred me to do something about it. Then I started noticing what was happening around me and within me, and through my own style of poetry, I wrote them out. Soon I realised that I had this indescribable joy when I finished a poem. And when I shared them with people who knew I much prefer Authentic Conversations, they told me how they connect with these words. I was elated!
Without any pressure of time or numbers, I kept writing to a point when those closest to me encouraged me to publish a poetry book! My introverted self told me that I needed a purpose. That began the search within myself. I asked myself, "what do these poems do for me?" And I found that besides immense joy, I felt empowered through them. Hence, I would love that you feel empowered by reading or listening to them too. The best way to listen, is to have your eyes closed, but not when you are driving.
I’m blessed with the encouragement from my husband, Alex, to sign up for a workshop by Candid Publishing, delivered by Mr. Phoon Kok Hwa, appropriately titled: “So you want to be an author?” And with a huge group of angels, who believed in me and helped me with the process, this book was created.
I’ve grouped the poems into the steps that I took during this journey: First step was “Step In”, which reflected what brought me joys or the struggles I faced. Next step was “Step Up”, which reflected how I own my stories to shared with those who matters to me. It’s scary but so necessary to have meaningful relationships. The final step was “Step Out” , which reflected the life I wanted to live. Not sure about you, but I only have this life to live and I intend to make it matter to me and those around me.
If you find some of your stories in my poems, please understand that these are not fictitious but true. Someone out there is going through what you are going through. You are not alone. When you connect with any of the poems, or feel the need to share with another soul, I encourage you to read to them or play the audio. Have them close their eyes and share with them and, the dynamics of your conversation will change. If we can’t have authentic conversations, why have any at all?
And, if you have any small sliver of time, share with me how you connect with any of my poems, you will be bringing joy to another soul.
With heart and soul
